Danao is the hometown of the famous Boholano leader, Francisco Dagohoy. It is in this town that he instituted his independent government but it turned out to be a concentration camp for World War II captives during the Japanese regime. Danao town used to be a barrio of Talibon but it became a municipality during the presidency of Pres. Carlos P. Garcia on March 16, 1961 by an Executive Order.  On July 9, 1961, it was opened as an independent municipality.

Danao town is a 92 kilometer distant from Tagbilaran City covering a land area of 9,786 hectares. It takes two hours and a half drive going to the town. It houses the famous EAT Danao Adventure Park with an ecotourism conception. EAT Danao is initiated by the Local Government Unit aiming to benefit the Municipality of Danao and its people.

Danao is equipped with several natural attractions which the local residents seek to strengthen and promote as a tourist paradise. Recently, the Municipality is gaining its share of tourists.
